Community and Family Health

Community and family Health is one of the Directorate of Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA) Headed By Dr Maryam Abubakar. It has two Major different units, Community Health and family Health respectively. And each unit has sub unit under it as follows:

Family Health Sub unit

  • Nutrition
  • State Emergency Maternal and Child Health Intervention (SEMCHIC)
  • Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI)
  • Health Education
  • Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF)
  • Family Planning/ Adolescent Health

Community Health Sub unit

  • Environmental Health
  • School Health Service

NUTRITION UNITS

Nutrition unit; – is a unit responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, supervising, monitoring and evaluation of Nutrition intervention/programs in the State for improving people’s nutritional status on health and helping society meet its obligation to alleviate hunger and Malnutrition.

Responsibilities of the Unit

  • Nutrition survey across the eleven (11) LGAs of the State
  • Secretary(technical) and Member State committee on food and Nutrition.
  • Production of complementary feed, Nutrition Education/counselling at community base management of acute malnutrition (CMAM)/ infant and young child feeding (IYCF) sites.
  • Community empowerment/ training on Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) KHHP, MNDC within the State

Infant and Young Child Feeding Unit

Responsibilities of Infant and Young Child Feeding Unit:-

  1. To promote Exclusive Breast feeding for the first six Month of Life.
  2. To Reduce Infant and Young Child Mortality.
  3. To promote Infant and Young Child Health.
  4. To Reduce Infant and Young Child Morbidity.
  5. To Promote Complementary Feeding.
  6. Mothers Counselling.
  7. To Promote Optimal Nutritional of Adolescents and Women of Reproductive Age.

State Maternal and Child health Intervention Center (SEMCHIC)

CONCEPT OF NATIONAL/ STATE/LGA EMERGENCY MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH INTERVENTION CENTRES (NEMCHIC/SEMCHIC/LEMCHIC)

To reduce preventable maternal and child deaths by 50% by 2021

A Nigeria where no woman or child dies from preventable causes

Mission of the Project

  • To promote awareness and ensure effective emergency response to maternal and child mortality that addresses the four delays to care through an integrated approach

Objectives of the Project

  • To improve awareness and promote community involvement in interventions to reduce maternal and child mortality
  • To strengthen coordination, leadership and accountability in RMNCAH+N programmes
  • To increase data visibility, quality and use for action at all levels
  • To improve detection and responsiveness in the resolution of RMNCAH+N service gaps
